Infill Top-Ups

Infill is the layer of granules, usually sand, rubber or an organic material, that sits down between the turf blades. It does a lot of quiet work:

• Holds the blades upright so the turf looks natural
• Cushions impact for safer play
• Adds ballast so the turf stays put
• Assists drainage and helps the surface run cooler

It can, black crumb rubber in particular soaks up heat, which matters in Florida. To keep things cooler:

Go with a light-coloured or cooling infill, or an organic option like cork that holds less heat, and pair it with shade or a misting setup where it makes sense.

It does. Between heavy use, weather and time, infill compacts, drifts and thins out, so topping it back up is part of keeping a field safe. We handle it with equipment built specifically for synthetic sports fields.

Regular Replenishment

We add fresh infill precisely where it has worn thin, goalmouths, midfield and the paths players walk, so cushioning, shock absorption and traction stay even across the whole field.

Redistribution Before Replacement

Often the infill is all there, just uneven. Before topping up, we brush and sweep it back into balance and see which areas genuinely need more material.

Full Replacement (When Needed)

On older or neglected fields we may advise a partial or full swap, lifting out contaminated or compacted infill and prepping the surface for a fresh layer.

It does, in two main ways:

• Holding the fibres upright so water can flow through
• Stopping the pile from matting down and trapping moisture

Paired with a permeable base, a healthy infill layer keeps drainage working the way it should.

Not for sports use.

On a sports field, infill is what delivers shock absorption, stable footing and true ball behaviour. Leave it out and you're looking at more injuries, faster wear and a surface that plays nothing like it should. For any competitive or regulated field, it's non-negotiable.

Sports fields need more infill than a backyard or light commercial lawn because of how hard they get used. You're usually looking at 3 to 4+ pounds per square foot, depending on:

• Pile height, longer blades need more infill to stay stable
• The sport, soccer, football and rugby each ask for different cushioning
• Safety targets, hitting the right impact-attenuation ratings
• Weather and drainage, more infill can help stability during heavy use or rain

That heavier profile is what gives you shock absorption, cleat grip and a consistent surface end to end. Skimp on it and you get faster wear, weaker performance and more risk.
